Pelvic Pain
Pelvic pain has no evident etiology in approximately 33-50% of cases. The pelvis is a very complex area with multiple nervous and organ system contributions and overlap. This fact usually necessitates a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis. Specialist such as urology, gastroenterology, gynecology (if applicable), psychology, physiotherapy, and pain management should be coordinated to arrive at a treatment plan. Pelvic pain is often associated with voiding and/or sexual dysfunction. Common causes include bowel/bladder organ dysfunction, reproductive organ dysfunction, pelvic adhesions, pelvic muscle spasm, or external genitalia sensitization through infection or trauma.
