Cancer Pain

Cancer pain is the result of tumor growth into soft tissue, bone, viscera, or nervous structures. Advanced cancer patients have pain as an associated symptom approximately 90% of the time. Cancer pain can also be the result of necessary and life sparing treatment in up to 25% of cases. Treatments range from palliative care to control of symptoms for patients with excellent long term prognosis. Cancer can affect any tissue in the body and pain varies dependent on the diagnosed location of the cancer; treatment options can be sophisticated. Treatment is best coordinated with your pain physician and oncologist to achieve optimal care.
