Abdominal Pain
The abdomen is one of the most common types of regional pain usually afflicting young adults, specifically females. Abdominal pain is commonly a generalized, vague pain localized only to the abdomen or belly. This pain necessitates a multidisciplinary approach if not worked up already through a gastroenterologist, as most of the abdominal cavity is digestive in nature. Musculoskeletal pain is usually specific and localized to a point and reproducible on exam. Neuropathic pain is a type of pain which is the result of abnormal crosswiring of the nervous system after abdominal injury or surgery. Other abdominal pain can be triggered by a myriad of causes such as poor blood flow, abnormal clotting, diabetes, and abdominal adhesions to name a few. Abdominal pain is very difficult to determine the cause, as well as treat.
